AS the weather finally cools in the southern hemisphere, many of us are delighted that we can grab our coats and boots and get the fires going on the weekend, I know I am!winter, elements i love, southern hemisphere (2)

I often dream about my visits to the Northern Hemisphere, when i was a bit of ski bum spending winters in Aspen or visiting friends & family in Switzerland…winter, europe, elements i love, blog

where interiors have a genuine moody atmosphere like this beautiful chalet in Switzerland by StudioIlse. Soft lighting from lamps, velvet and linen fabrics, natural woods and small details in the upholstery  & objet along with an open fire, all elements i love.ChaletFontanet, interiors, switzerland

And for those of you who have ever considered dark inky walls, this might be a deciding moment! This terrace house in London pulls it off better than most with a mix of vintage finds and a curated collection of objets…renovated by clever couple Graham Hughes (photographer) & partner Jo Atkins-Hughes (stylist) read more about them here

I loved this image the first time i saw it, Roman & Williams doing their thing again, this time an amazing 1890’s Gothic-Venetian building home to the Chicago Athletic Association, now a pretty posh hotel with some serious design credentials. Where old meets new they really can do no wrong.interiors, love, Roman & Williams

With the weekend just around the corner i am always on the lookout for flower inspiration, I discovered Saipua a couple of years ago and I love Sarah Ryhanen’s unstructured approach to her arrangements. I saved these images as i particularly liked how they were seasonal, winter flowers. I wonder now if it was a subliminal moment that has taken a few years to manifest into my photographing of flowers & still lifes’ on Sunday afternoons.

An oldie but a goodie this incredible cast iron fire place  from the mid 19thC would surely be the catalyst to creating a dark and moody lounge, at your place, your small bar, your boutique hotel, your ski lodge…
